Problems Facing the Nation Essay -- US Government
The nation is facing one of its most distressed times. This country has fallen from its once great position, undermined by corporate greed, and military threats. Several factors have helped to contribute to this decline from the growing deficit, to our dependency on oil and the war on terrorism. Our economy took a tumble in December 2007 our gross domestic product also continued to decrease. However, congress did not recognize the signs of the recession until December 2008 (Isidore). During this time mass layoffs and numerous business closures occurred. The economy has been a large issue even before Obama came into office. In addition, the housing market has taken a hit. Several families have been forced out of their homes when they became unable to make their mortgage payments. Seven and a half million mortgages were past due or being foreclosed on (Felton 35). When you are without a home it is much more difficult to escape poverty you are unable to apply for a job since you do not have a permanent address thus only pushing the nation farther into despair. The nationââ¬â¢s deficit has reached 13 trillion dollars more than it has ever reached before and is still anticipated to increase. The Obama administration has put a spending freeze on to help counter act the expected increase of spending (Stein). The freeze makes congress allocate their money for new project by cutting other services. The effect of the freeze is expected to save the nation $250 billion dollars. The economy has been recently scared by various bad reports of uprisings in Greece instability in Europe and increased declines in retail sales. The Obama administration has to find a way to stabilize the economy in order for economic growth to begin. Although itââ¬â¢s n... ...ear in Breifing." Time 4 January 2010: 35. How does Shakespeare Exploit the Supernatural for dramatic Effect in Ma
The play begins in a 'desolate place' as the stage directions tell us. Shakespeare uses the pathetic fallacy of 'Thunder and Lightening.' This creates an atmosphere of dark and evil and anticipates something frightening. There are three witches, casting a spell, as Shakespeare shows through the use of rhyming couplets at the end of lines. In addition to this, he uses the syntatic parralelism to suggest that everything is not what it will seem. 'Fair is foul and foul is fair.' This warns the audience so that they can make predictions of what will happen in 'Macbeth.' A Jacobean audience and Shakespeare?s contemporaries believed in the supernatural very strongly, including the king of that time, King James I of England. They would be intrigued by the witches? predictions in ?Macbeth,? as well as the witches? costumes on stage being scary to them. Nowadays, witches aren?t thought of as an avatar of the devil, so it would take a different kind of witch to interest a modern audience, one that challenges stereotypes. The Banking Concept
Through Freireâ⬠s â⬠The Banking Concept of Education,â⬠we see the effects this concept has on itâ⬠s students and also we see the effects that the alternate concept, problem-posing has. The ââ¬Ëbankingâ⬠concept allows the students to become vessels of knowledge, not being able to learn at a creative pace. By using communism, seeing through how education is taught in the classroom, it is parallel to Freireâ⬠s ââ¬Ëbankingâ⬠concept. We can see that both ideas are similar and both were harmful to the human mind. While ââ¬Ëbankingâ⬠poses the threat of creative growth and power, Marxism, which applies Marxâ⬠s ideas to learning in a communistic way, it creates the threat of never being able to learn. The banking concept is â⬠a gift bestowed by those who consider themselves knowledgeable upon those who they consider to know nothingâ⬠(Freire 213). The goal of the ââ¬Ëbankingâ⬠concept is to deposit as much information into the students as possible. This results in disconnected memorization without the real understanding and discouragement of creative thought. They cannot think for themselves. As Marx writes, just as there are two types of learning, ââ¬Ëbankingâ⬠and problem-posing, he explains that society is this way also. There is the upper class and subordinate classes. They both struggle for economic and political power and the primary way the upper class keeps its power is through their beliefs and values. They are allowed to think. The subordinate classes believe they are subordinate due to the upper classes prestige and way of thinking. Like Freireâ⬠s ââ¬Ëbankingâ⬠concept, education is the way to keep students down and this works because the students accept all knowledge from the teacher, just like the dominant class in Marxâ⬠s ideology, keeps the subordinate classes submissive. There are also things that make Freireâ⬠s ideas of teaching that leave Marx at a disadvantage. This is because most submissive people will eventually fight back to get their ideas heard. So therefore the ââ¬Ëbankingâ⬠concept has a flaw in itself. When Marx talks about the subordinate classes believing that they had to live up to the upper class, he forgot to mention that throughout time, an oppressed people will figure out that they deserve better than what they are receiving. Overthrowing a government or standing up to a figure of power allows the submissive to no longer not be able to learn. They learn through facing what they had been crushed by for so long. ââ¬ËBankingâ⬠will eventually fall to its demise, to its students. This will then pave the way to actually learning something that is useful and can be utilized. ââ¬ËBankingâ⬠and Marx both do not realize that you cannot keep something hidden out of sight, a people that can learn and live, without having to keep them subservient.

Marketing and Unstructured Approaches Essay
Marketers have different views of how to position a brand. Some value structured approaches such as the competitive positioning model described in the chapter, which focuses on specific points-of-parity and points-of-difference. Others prefer unstructured approaches that rely more on stories, narratives, and other flowing depictions. Take a position: The best way to position a brand is through a structured approach versus the best way to position a brand is through an unstructured approach. Iââ¬â¢d like to choose unstructured approaches to position a brand. First, I admit that structured approaches are quite straight forward with clearly demonstrated introduction. No matter specific points-of-parity or points-of-difference, they have clear and direct problems to solve and goals to achieve. By utilizing this strategy, things may go well and effectively, but this is probably in the short run. We need to look further and realize that every brand is representing a kind of unique culture. It is like a special individual with distinctive characteristics. However, stories, narratives and depictions are not rigid, more acceptable and interesting than structured approaches for consumers. As a customer I would tend to listen to every vivid and fascinating story to get familiar to a brand that I did not know before. The final goal is to build competitive advantages. Structured approaches are aiming to it directly, while unstructured are potentially affecting consumers to remember the brand. In fact, for every company it values for most part on making consumers to remember its brand and products. Yet for human beings, it is easier to remember a thing when it involves a kind of scene than pop directly to them out of nowhere. For most of us, there are usually some scenes in our lives that we never forget, maybe they are not important at all, but the specific scene, surrounds and backgrounds involving incidents make us always remember them. In a similar way, introducing a brand with stories is trying to build a kind of unique brand culture and let consumers get to know and remember it gradually. In the short run, this may not bring substantial and direct profit, but in the long run, it contributes a lot in setting up a unique and unforgettable culture for the company.

Women's Liberation Coming Out of the 19th Century Research Paper
Women's Liberation Coming Out of the 19th Century - Research Paper Example that ideology to help provide a socially acceptable avenue of refuge for other young women like her who felt trapped but did not wish to become ââ¬Ëfallen women.ââ¬â¢ Beecher struggled to find comfort in her religion after her fiance was lost at sea, but was unable to relinquish her sense of self and self-will (Sklar, 1973). She moved to Hartford, Connecticut and opened up new schools designed to benefit girls and providing women with additional acceptable life options outside of marriage. Her tracts, books and lectures were intended to make her less threatening to men and women who felt True Womanhood was the only natural and right social arrangement (Sklar, 1973). Her efforts provided women with a sense of self-respect and paved the road for future female activists such as Francis Willard. Francis Willard also worked from within the cult of True Womanhodd to help bring other women into a more public sphere by focusing attention on the expected responsibilities of women within their 'natural' role within the family. According to Amy Slagell (2002), ââ¬Å"Willard knew that by recruiting, organizing and energizing interested women to being their work of transforming the world as she believed they were called to do, women would come to a new awareness of their power so that not only would the outer world be transformed, but the women themselves as wellâ⬠(23). She introduced the Home Protection argument to the Womenââ¬â¢s Christian Temperance Union ââ¬Å"as a wedge argument, a way to break through the walls of prejudice an ââ¬Ëaverage womanââ¬â¢ would likely bear toward suffrage and womenââ¬â¢s political workâ⬠(Slagell, 2002: 10). According to Flexner, she took a ââ¬Å"shrewdâ⬠approach; ââ¬Å"a series of tangential moves, in the course of which women â⬠¦ were gradually led to understand... The Womenââ¬â¢s Liberation Movement as we know it today emanated from two different ideological sources and continues to promote two widely different points of view. Feminist issues are multifaceted, so it is unsurprising that the approaches to remedying these issues are often contentious and inadequate. Feminists don't always agree on the recommended solutions and not all of the needs of women have been met. Women and their ever changing lives cannot be placed in specified categories nor can the answers to their specific needs be found in theories. What all feminists should recognize is that the overall goal of leveling the playing field for everyone is a never-ending effort. There are very few absolutes in attempting to find the correct answers to the human rights debate as engaged by liberal and radical feminists. Both groups claim that the opposite view subverts their common goal of gender equality. At its core, the womenââ¬â¢s movement that was touched off by feminist thou ght more than a century ago through the modern movement of the 1960s and continuing even today has successfully addressed equality and human rights issues for women.

The Ethical Issues Associated with the Outsourcing of Legal and Law Research Paper
The Ethical Issues Associated with the Outsourcing of Legal and Law Related Services Outsourcing to India - Research Paper Example However, a number of ethical issues have cropped up as a result of this outsourcing. The American attorneys based in the US believe that by doing so the American attorneys are losing touch with their work. With outsourcing, a number of problems crop up such as the issue of keeping control over the work and the way it's being done in the first place. While outsourcing call centers etc were more commonplace, the American companies were less forthcoming regarding outsourcing legal work overseas due to the fear of the clients' backlash and the way the labor unions would react to the use of Indian labor. The American Bar Association ethical rules clearly state that all law firms are required to pass all the cost savings on to the clients as a result of outsourcing. There are a number of legal authorities which will be studied for the purposes of this paper such as the California Rules of Professional Conduct (CRPC), ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct(Model Rules) and lastly, the California State Bar Act. There are a number of advisory bodies such as the ABA standing committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility Formal Opinions (ABA), California Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct, San Diego County Bar Association Legal Ethics Committee etc. According to the laws regarding unauthorized practice or even abetting such practices can result in; B&P 6125: "No person shall practice law in California unless the person is an active member of the State Bar."According to CRPC1-120 "A member shall not knowingly assist in, solicit, or induce any violation of these rules or the State Bar Act." According to the definition of law provided by the case of Morgan v State bar 51 Cal. 3d 598(1990); Farnham v State Bar Cal. 3d 605, 612 (1976);"The giving of legal advice and the preparation of legal instruments and contracts by which legal rights are secured; court appearances; engaging in negotiations with opposing counsel."Ã
